We are looking for a talented Business Developer to join our team in Barcelona and support the roll out of Bettair® technology. Bettair® is an Internet of Things (IoT) platform that permits, for the first time, to map air pollution in cities on a previously unimaginable scale based on a large deployment of outstandingly accurate gas sensors by using an advanced post-processing algorithm. The platform includes Hardware (gas sensor network), Software (back/front end) for cities and an APP for citizens. We are far more advanced than our competitors in terms of accuracy and reliability. It is important to note that the complementary secondary networks for air pollution are an imminent market that is going to exploit in the coming months.


  • Screening activities in order to identify local and national opportunities including Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCPs), Public Procurement of Innovative Solutions (PPIs) and Public Procurement tenders opportunities (at national, and at European level).
  • Identify and collaborate with key smart city players to in order be invited in strong tenders.
  • Identify local players to install the technology
  • Lead the preparation of the request for proposal (RFP) document, if necessary.
  • Identify third parties (smart city integrators, telcos, etc.) interested on integrating Bettair technology.
  • Design, implement and follow-up the sales strategy along with top management.
  • Build and promote strong, long-lasting relationships with our clients.
  • Understand customer needs and provide customer service in a timely and effective manner.
  • Work with tools for managing clients such as SugarCRM.


What you bring to the table:

  • Several years of expertise in public procurements (tenders) for smart cities.
  • Proven expertise in the sector (business contacts).
  • Desirable an engineering degree (preferably Telecommunications or Electronics).
  • Demonstrable negotiation capabilities, and customer service and communication skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English (French is desirable).

One of the main activities of Ateknea is to bring innovative solutions to the market. Currently, our most promising vertical is an accurate and affordable solution for air quality monitoring which will allow for the first time, the deployment of a dense and fast pollution mapping tool for cities.

We are looking for a passionate candidate with high degree of autonomy and international (outside of Spain) research experience which can lead the scientific development of the project.


  • Development of mathematical models for urban air quality modelling.
  • Research on inference algorithms to ensure target accuracy levels of pollution sensors in standalone real settings.
  • Definition of the validation plan for the developed air quality models.
  • Research on recommendation policies for air quality management considering different sources types (including transportation).
  • Managing the scientific division of the project.

Requirements (in order to be eligible, the researchers must):

  • Hold a PhD in Atmospheric Physics, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent discipline and 4 years of full-time research experience after obtaining it in the field of air quality modelling or climate modelling.
  • For NON PhD applicants, the candidates should have at least 8 years of full-time equivalent research experience, including the period of research training, after obtaining the degree.
  • At least 1 year of experience in applied research and/or technology transfer activities (R&D projects involving companies, patents licensing or spin offs).
  • Experience in the management of research groups.
  • At least 2 years of research experience abroad (outside of Spain) of within the last 36 months.

Desired skills:

  • Experience with programming languages for data processing such as Python, Matlab or R.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning techniques.
  • Knowledge of Bayesian inference Regression and Hypothesis testing.
  • Strong background in environmental and atmospheric sciences related to air quality monitoring. Specifically, in atmospheric dispersion models.
  • Experience with air quality management and assessment software such as ADMS Urban.
